James Wright has welcomed the launch of the Conservative Party’s manifesto, setting out a clear plan and bold action to build a secure and prosperous future for Bath and our country.
As part of the clear plan to defend our country, interests, and values, the Conservatives will increase defence spending to 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2030, making the UK the largest defence power in Europe and the second largest in NATO.
The Conservatives will invest in firing up the UK industrial base, including a further £10 billion over the next decade in the British defence industry. This commitment will double our current spending and ensure that we have more secure and resilient supply chains, whilst supporting the 400,000 British jobs that make up our defence industry.
Bold action has always been taken by the Conservatives in supporting Ukraine unwaveringly as Ukraine’s security is our security.
In 2024-25, the Conservatives are delivering £3 billion of military support in 2024-25, including 400 vehicles, more than 1,600 munitions, and more than four million rounds of small arms. Under the Conservatives, this support will remain unwavering and will continue for as long as it takes.
A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for a more secure Britain.
The choice is clear in this election: stick with the clear plan to keep our country safe with Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives or go back to square one with Keir Starmer and the same old Labour Party who have refused to commit to our 2.5 per cent of GDP defence spending pledge.
Commenting, James Wright said "Bath has a proud history of supporting the nation's defence. That is why I am supporting our bold action that will see defence spending increase to 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2030, making the UK the largest defence power in Europe, delivering the support our Armed Forces so rightfully deserve, and continuing our unwavering long-term support to Ukraine.
