I am delighted to hear that there has been additional funding awarded for Exmoor-related projects as part of the Farming in a Protected Landscape programme. This supports farmers and land managers in their contribution to protected landscapes and ensures environmental improvements go hand in hand with agriculture.
One project already funded has set aside 540 hectares to regenerative farming, and improved management across 700 hectares of moorland.
This funding is allowing farmers to adopt technology like supporting the purchase of innovative 'no fence' radio collars have been fitted to cattle grazing on Molland moor. The collars are designed to encourage grazing in a way that breaks up Molinia grass and improves the conditions for young heather and other wild plant species to re-grow.
This additional funding and the project extension till March 2025 will secure farming productivity and profitability whilst delivering a return for nature and the environment.
