Last year I heard that Kithurst Car Park had been earmarked for closure at the end of December after a 30 year agreement with the County Council was due to finish. This much loved and vital community link is used by thousands of locals and tourists a year to access the downs.
I secured an extension till the end of the January to keep it open and to allow time to find an organisation to take it on. I am delighted that Horsham District Council has agreed to take over management with the support Storrington Parish Council whose wardens will be visiting the car park weekly.
This agreement will mean that the car parks future remains secure, giving all of those who love our downs, a safe and easy route to access its stunning views.
I would like to thank the over 4,700 community members who signed the petition, those who worked to raise its profile and to Andrew Griffith MP for his support in bringing the parties together.
Why not visit the downs via Kithurst this weekend to celebrate?
