Earlier this month I had the opportunity to meet Ranil Jayawardena MP the new sectary of state for the Department of the Environment and Rural Affairs at Conservative Party Conference, we spoke about the need to protect tenant farmers during the Agricultural Transition Plan and to open up new opportunities to promote new entrants.
I also had the opportunity to meet members of the Conservative Environment Network and to speak to them about the challenges and opportunities as we reform the way we pay farmers for the public goods they deliver to the nation. As a farmer myself, I know first-hand how the loss of Basic Payment is affecting farming businesses across the country and how the replacement ELMs payments are only now coming online.
