It was great for Full Council to hold its meeting at Chanctonbury Leisure Centre in Spierbridge Road, Storrington, on October 19. The council switched from its usual venue in Horsham to give people living in the southern towns and villages of the district a chance to engage with democracy without the need to travel to Horsham.
Chanctonbury Leisure Centre has invited the council to use its studio free of charge. The charity which runs the centre benefited from a loan from the council during the pandemic to allow it to purchase the equipment when the company running it went bankrupt, without the council's support this vital community asset may have had to close.
James Wright, Cabinet Member for Environment and Rural Affairs and member for Storrington said: “Earlier in the year we held public meetings across the district called ‘The Big Conversation’ which were really well received and holding our full council meeting in Storrington will help towards reaching a broader audience, enabling more people from the south of the district to come along. It's great to be able to use a space that the council has helped retain for the community”
