It was a great amount of pleasure that I visited the West Grinstead Ploughing Match this weekend (Saturday 17th). The Ploughing Match is the largest agricultural event in the district and has been held for the last 150 years. The ploughing match has 12 different ploughing classes as well as stream ploughing, livestock showing and an excellent bar. It is a fantastic day out and is part of our fragile fabric of our rural society.
I saw many of the district's farmers whom I count as friends including David Exwood (pictured), who is Vice President of the National Farmers Union. David along with 27 farmers recently won funding as part of DEFRA's landscape recovery scheme to promote habitat restoration along the River Adur.
The Ploughing Match will be back next year details on their website https://www.westgrinsteadploughing.co.uk/
